The Lady Raiders picked up two road wins last week at Bridgeport and Manson, lifting their overall win-loss record to 7-8 and their Central Washington 2B record to 5-2.
Lake Roosevelt is in second place in the north half of the league, with a two-game lead over the Bridgeport Fillies.
The Lady Raiders started the Jan. 28 game at Bridgeport slow. Both sides had trouble making shots and ball handling was an issue as they traded steals.
Marque Wilson went down with an ankle injury in the first quarter, limiting the Lady Raiders to just seven players for the rest of the game.
The Lady Raiders took the lead in the first quarter and held onto it, 10-6.
In the second quarter, the Fillies came back into the game, outscoring LR 16-14. LR came back in the third quarter to hold the Fillies to just four points to build a seven-point lead going into the last quarter. The Fillies again outscored the Lady Raiders in the fourth quarter 6-5, but the damage was done and the Lady Raiders came away with the victory 38-32.
“I saw the girls starting to get comfortable with the system and what they need to do on the court,” Head Coach Wallace Pleasants said. “We had to make some changes because of the injury to Marque Wilson, and we adjusted and moved forward.”
The win put the Lady Raiders back on track, and they looked to continue the momentum against Manson.
At Manson Friday, the Lady Raiders made progress on the floor. LR came away with a big win, 47-33.
“This time against Manson, we settled down and changed how we ran our zone and our offense, which helped us at both ends of the court,” Pleasants said. “It’s huge for us on the floor, and at Manson (the freshmen girls) showed that they want to be out there.”
This week the Lady Raiders hope to continue the win streak against the Liberty Bell Mt. Lions and Riverside Christian. On Friday, the Ladies host the Mt. Lions at Gailord Nelson Gym starting at 6 p.m. LR defeated them at Liberty Bell 48-25 Jan. 21.
On Saturday, the Lady Raiders head to Yakima to take on the Riverside Christian Crusaders in a 5:30 p.m. game at Riverside Christian school gym. The Crusaders are down this season with a 3-13 overall record that includes big losses to Liberty Bell and Kittitas.
