Donald C. "Don" Seaver, 88, was born August 15, 1925, in Niagara Falls, New York, to Clair W. and Harriet R. Seaver of Thorold, Ontario, Canada and died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, in Nespelem, Washington.
Don spent his childhood moving about Canada with his father's work in the Ontario towns of Windle Village, Thorold South, Niagara Falls and Saint Catherines; then in 1938 to the north shore of the St. Lawrence River and the community of Baie Comeau in Quebec, Canada whose only access was by boat in the summer and ski-plane in the winter.
During the 1940s Don and his brother Jim served in the United States Merchant Marines, shipping out of New York. October of 1946 found Don leaving the Merchant Marines and moving on to Spokane, Wash., where he worked at Millwood and another job until January 1949, when he got drafted into the U.S. Army. Spending six months in Japan, Don was discharged in March of 1950. Don returned to his job at Millwood until September of 1950, when he was called back into the Army and spent six months in Korea. Corporal Donald C. Seaver was honorably discharged for his second and final time in September of 1953. During the spring of 1952, Don's life took its' most important turn when he met Connie Mae Rosencrans of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where they were wed on June 7, 1953. In 1957, Don and Connie moved to Coulee Dam, Wash., where Don began as a Machinist Apprentice at Grand Coulee Dam from December of 1957 until his retirement as a Machinist from the Bureau in September of 1985. In Don's own words, "I really enjoyed my retirement." Don was a member of the IAM District 751 Machinist Union, Spokane Union Hall since 1958, served his community for 25 years with the Coulee Dam Fire Association, was a lifetime member of the Delano, Washington VFW Post and active member of the Banks Lake Golf Course. Don enjoyed eating a good breakfast, golfing, reading, walking, fishing, boating, camping, riding his motorcycle as long as he was able and loved to fix things in his home shop.
Predeceased in November of 2003 by his beloved bride of 50 years: Connie Seaver; Don's legacy is proudly carried on through his son: Brett Seaver (Gina); daughter: Darci Semprimoznik and grandson's: Cole Seaver and Peyton Semprimoznik.
At noon on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, friends and family gathered for a graveside service at Spring Canyon Cemetery in Grand Coulee to celebrate Don's life. Military honors were provided by the Army Honors Detail from Spokane, Washington and American Legion Post 157 of Electric City, Washington
His family requests that any donations be made payable in Don's memory to "Banks Lake Golf Course" for fairways/greens maintenance. Funds may be mailed to "Banks Lake Golf Course, PO Box 616, Grand Coulee, WA 99133-0616".
