Edward "Wayne" Boyd (62) expert roper, finisher, shoer and rider of horses, was surrounded by his loving family when he departed this earth Wednesday morning, Feb. 19, 2014, on his final ride from Coulee Medical Center in Grand Coulee, Wash., following a courageous battle with cancer.

Wayne was born March 30, 1951, at the Inchelium, Wash., home of his parents William "Bill" and Matilda Seymour-Boyd. A lifetime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nespelem, Wash., Wayne was a deeply religious man who always gave of himself to others. In keeping with his lifelong love of horses, Wayne loved to chase, catch and finish wild horses (he left the rough horse breaking to his brothers), he also owned and rode race horses. Wayne was an accomplished pool player who traveled extensively to tournaments around the state who also enjoyed watching old John Wayne western movies.

Predeceased by both his parents; Wayne's legacy lives on through his life partner: Cindy Boyd, daughters: Shannon Boyd (Montana Pakootas) and Bridget Boyd (Daniel Nanamkin); son: Russell Boyd (Olivia Wyncoop); fourteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; eight sisters, eight brothers and numerous nephews and nieces.

A traditional dressing was held at 1 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee. A family and friend Wake and Rosary were held at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Nespelem Community Center in Nespelem. A public Wake and Rosary were held at 7 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at the Inchelium Community Center in Inchelium, with his funeral Mass taking place in that location at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014. Burial took place at Hall Creek Cemetery in Inchelium Saturday following Wayne's funeral service.
