Box tops

raise money

Center School has raised over $1,200 this school year through its box tops for education program. Box top money is used to purchase playground equipment. Kindergarten registration for the next school year has begun.

Students

take a trip

Some 139 Lake Roosevelt High School students went on a semester awards trip to Wonderland in Spokane Friday. Students earned the trip by having few demerits and good attendance. The students had three hours of activity and returned to school in late afternoon.

Sports added

to exception

Tennis, cross country and golf were added to a Grand Coulee Dam School District policy that allows eighth graders to participate in high school sports as long as the middle school doesn’t have a program in those sports.

Tree planting

planned

The town of Coulee Dam is going to plant a tree in honor of Arbor Day, April 9. The “Little Leaf Linden” will be planted in Mason City Memorial Park near the tree sculptures at 1 p.m.

The town is working towards being recognized as a “Tree City USA” this year by participating in a number of activities. Councilmember Gayle Swagerty is heading up the effort.

Tacos $5k

The Nespelem Junior Rodeo Auction and Taco Feed last Thursday night at the Nes-pelem School raised about $5,000 toward expenses for the Junior Rodeo scheduled for April 26-27.

Rebuilding

and learning

TERO (Tribal Employment Rights Office) will hold its Native Construction Careers Institute training and recognition luncheon in the Coulee Dam community room in city hall Thursday, April 3.

Those attending can visit the houses at 1201 Camas Street that trainees have completed work on from 8:30 to 10 a.m.

At 11 a.m. Dan Kowalski, the NCCI training instructor, will present certificates and there will be a BBQ luncheon at noon. From 1-2 p.m. there will be closing comments by the TERO Commission.

Next in charge

Councilmember Ken Miles was voted “mayor pro-tem” by the Coulee Dam Town Council at its last meeting. The assignment is for six months. Miles replaces Bob Poch, who recently resigned from the council.
