Time to have your say

Letter to the Editor

Most of us have experienced a lot of frustration as a result of the way our country has been going in recent years, with massive and seemingly limitless debt, great increases in various giveaway programs and politicians of all stripes who seem unable to get just about anything positive done. The sky is the limit, or so it would seem, to the power that is given to government agencies, unelected bureaucrats and their endless mountain of regulations regarding just about every facet of our lives. It is easy to just shrug our shoulders and say, “what’s the use, no one listens to me anyway; they don’t give a hoot for what I think, say or believe.”

It seems to me that the time has come for citizens (that’s you and me) to “just say no” to ineffectual politicians who insist on going against the will of “We the People.” I believe that it is not hopeless and there are things that you and I can and, indeed, must do.

For example, two events are coming up within the next three weeks where you and I can have our say … even to the politicians and to the public as well. Please get involved because you can make a difference. These two events are as follows:

• Friday April 4 – The annual Republican Lincoln Day Dinner which will be held at 6 p.m. at the Grant County Fairgrounds in Moses Lake.

Many people running for office this fall will be there. This will be a good time to get to know them, hear what they have to say and speak to them about issues. Come, join in on this important event. Tickets are $40 per person/$70 per couple. For ticket information contact your Republican (precinct committee officer) PCO or call Rick Heiberg @ 509-632-5858.

• The second event will be a Candidates Rally on Tuesday, April 15, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the 9-11 Memorial on Pioneer Way in front of the Moses Lake Public Library. This, too, will be an excellent opportunity for us to meet the 2014 candidates. Many will be speaking, so you will be able, not only to hear them, but ask questions and get to know them a little. Cowboy singer, Charlie Root will be singing and there will be door prizes as well as free balloons and hot dogs. Bring a friend (or two) and join in on this event.
