The Grand Coulee Recreation Softball League will hold a coaches meeting at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, at Loepp Furniture. The team due date has been set for June 1, and softball play begins June 10. Additional information is available by calling Kevin Portch, 631-0139, or Amanda Button, 631-2667.
Discussion held with White House director
A “My Brother’s Keeper Roundtable” was held at Lake Roosevelt High School Saturday with a select group of young native men.
It was part of the White House Initiative in regard to the American Indian and Alaska Native Education program.
In charge of the discussion was William Mendoza, the White House director of the program.
The discussion was a roundtable exchange of ideas of issues facing young boys and men in Indian Country. The roundtable was by invitation only.
Donations will go
to support centers
The 14th Annual Diaper Drive will be held soon at Zion Lutheran Church in support of Lutherans for Life.
Zion Lutheran will be collecting donations to support the Annual Diaper Drive at Harvest Foods in Coulee Dam from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day. Look for the giant “calf” bottle to place your donations in. The collections will be matched up to $300 by Thrivent Choice Funds. The collected donations will be divided between the Support Center in Omak, a crisis center for those in need, and Life Support in Spokane, a teen pregnancy center for young women in crisis pregnancies. District audit shows
no deficiencies
The Grand Coulee Dam School District got a clean state audit, members of the school board were informed last week.
The district had its exit conference with state auditors April 28 and the summary concluded that there were no material misstatements in the financial statements; no significant deficiencies in internal control; and no instances of noncompliance identified for the audit period from Sept. 1, 2012, through Aug. 31, 2013.
The audit costs the district in total expenses an estimated $16,614 and the district is scheduled for its next audit in 2015. That audit will cover accountability for public resources, financial statement and federal programs.
Senior
trip planned
The Grand Coulee Dam School District board has approved plans for this year’s senior trip.
Lake Roosevelt seniors will leave early morning June 1 for Silverwood Theme Park in Idaho and return late June 2.
The itinerary includes the Silverwood /Boulder Beach Water Park, the Skate Plaza in Coeur d’Alene, and activities like bowling, go carts, mini golf, and laser tag games.
Seniors will leave the Valley Mall in Spokane Valley to return home at 8 p.m., June 2.
The seniors started raising money for the senior trip as freshmen, and their project funds will pay for the trip.

Candidate Filing Week begins Monday, May 12. Candidates filing in person can file at their county elections department beginning at 8 a.m. until Friday, May 16, at 5 p.m.
