to Kentucky
An Electric City woman reported to police that someone had altered her Social Security account so that her monthly check was sent to a Louisville, Kentucky bank. She was notified through Social Security that the checks were going to the Republic Bank in Kentucky. The federal government is investigating.
Men arrested for backburning arson
Two Twisp men have been arrested for lighting “back burn” fires along Benson Creek Road in Okanogan County after property owners and firefighters told them not to, the county sheriff said.
Tuesday’s arrest was Larry Smith’s second arrest for first-degree arson within a month. Smith, 63, was arrested for the same thing July 18. Keith V. Strickland, 60, was also booked on two counts of first-degree arson for a back burn on Benson Road and for another on Finley Canyon and Konrad Road after fire crews told him not to, the sheriff’s office said. He was booked into jail Monday night.
No meeting
tonight
The council meeting for the town of Coulee Dam, scheduled for tonight (Wednesday), has been cancelled due to the lack of a quorum. The next council meeting will be on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Corridor group
to meet
The Coulee Corridor Consortium will hold its monthly meeting Aug. 15, at Dry Falls State Park. There will be a no-host lunch beginning at noon.
Sports
physicals
offered
Coulee Medical Center is offering sports physicals today and next Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Cost of the physicals is $20. No insurance will be billed. Patients will need to bring the sports physical paperwork to be filled out. If your child wants to play sports he or she must have passed a sports physical.

The Regional Board of Mayors meeting scheduled for Monday this week was cancelled for lack of business to consider.
Blood
drive
There will be a community blood drive from 11:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Coulee Medical Center’s Professional Building B. The blood drive is being managed by Inland Northwest Blood Center with local volunteers. Additional information is available by calling Jennifer Tollefson at 509-280-8570.
