Police are looking for a man on a variety of charges, including burglary.
Raymond L. John, 20, whose driver’s license gave an address as 4117 Rocky River HUD Road, Omak, eluded officers on several occasions after entering a house on Bowen Street in Grand Coulee, police said.
A man and woman at a home at 231 Bowen, who said they don’t know John, told police he came in through a sliding door and sat down on the couch with them.
The incident occurred about 3:30 p.m. last Wednesday, and police responded to a burglary-in-progress call.
Seated on the couch was Stephanie Anderson-Fisher and her boyfriend who asked John what he wanted. When he started looking through nearby clothing and was asked what he was looking for he replied, “numbers.” Asked to leave, he headed back to the same the rear door, but was told to use the front door.
Shortly after he left, police arrived and were told the intruder was wearing a red 49’er coat and a grey hat.
Later, police Chief Mel Hunt found John, who stepped off the road to relieve himself and then fled.
Hunt later observed the man on the hillside below Hill Avenue. Hunt contacted him again, and the man fled for the second time. Two other officers became involved, Sean Cook and Gary Moore.
The suspect was spotted again and eluded police near Crescent Bay.
Charges include first-degree criminal trespass; vehicle prowl; third-degree theft; third-degree escape; obstructing a law enforcement officer; and making false statements to a police officer.
Grand Coulee police have the man’s billfold in their evidence room and are looking for him.
