Grand Coulee’s city council declared surplus a 1977 Ford F900 pumper truck at its meeting last Tuesday night. It’s now up for sale and only has about 20,000 miles on it, but it has other problems relating to pumps, etc. The council also put some computer equipment on the surplus list.

Joyce DeChenne was named to fill a vacant position on the Grand Coulee Library Board. She was recommended to the council by chair Diane Canady. She replaces Terri McPherson who had served two terms on the board. The appointment is for five years.

Fire Chief Richard Paris reported to the Grand Coulee council last Tuesday that the city’s ambulance was dispatched 35 times in August and the fire department had five calls for the same period.
Sticking
to his guns
The council at Grand Coulee agreed to award police Chief Mel Hunt his two service revolvers upon his retirement Sept. 30. The vote was unanimous.

Grand Coulee council last Tuesday passed an ordinance approving the transfer of control of the (Falcon) Charter Communications franchise to Comcast Corporation.
Woman
contracted virus in Grant County
A Pierce County woman who recently spent time in Grant County has been confirmed as having West Nile virus. The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department has investigated the case and determined that she was likely exposed to the infected mosquitos during her stay in Grant County. So far this year, there have been four other cases, two in Benton and Walla Walla counties and two from out of state. The virus causing West Nile disease has been detected in 26 mosquito samples from Grant County this year.
Blood drive

A Grand Coulee Community Blood Drive will be held Monday, Sept. 15, in the hospital Professional Building B from 11:30 to 5. The drive is sponsored by the Inland Northwest Blood Center in Spokane with the cooperation of Coulee Medical Center.
Transfer station
revenues
reported
The Delano Regional Transfer Station showed $45,608.59 in revenue for August, down $821 from the same period in 2013. The station is down $32,724.64, from last year for the first eight months of the year.
