Last Wednesday a disaster drill took place at North Dam Park, testing local Emergency Services. Emergency medical technicians, drivers, firefighters, police, pilots, and others from services all over our area responded and took part in the event. The drill also tested Coulee Community Hospital as a required exercise for personnel.
Relay for Life had a four page spread in the Star this week. Two conversations with cancer survivors from the area highlighted the insert. Sue Shear and Bonny Schmidt shared of their struggles and triumphs in the issue.

The Colville Tribes announced it’s plans for 100 campsites at Crescent Bay. A hotel and restaurant is to be added later after the 100 full service sites are complete, an additional 62 spaces for tent camping, a 100-slip marina, 32 rental houseboats mooring, a updated boat launch, dry boat storage, a swimming beach and a waterfront with a scenic walkway.
Beatrice Darby, 93, a poet is winning ribbons all over Washington’s County Fair circuit. Darby, a born again poet as she describes, scribbles her poems late at night in her bed at Coulee Community Nursing Home and lets the staff pick the ones to enter. So far she has won eight ribbons including a Best of Show.

Lake Roosevelt Football has opted out of Varsity football for this season. They will play a complete JV schedule due to a lack of experienced players and only 12 returning players of the 40 boys signed up to play. “It will just be safer for everyone to play at the JV level” said head coach John Adkins.

Gayland Snow, 36, of Electric City narrowly escaped fatal injuries Friday noon at the intersection of HW 155 and 174, when he was thrown from his motorcycle when hit by a car. Snow escaped with only a broken leg.

The Grand Coulee Fire Department wishes to remind anyone who turns in an alarm to stay on the phone until a fireman answers because that is the only way they will be able to know where the emergency is.
60 Years Ago
Funeral services will be held Friday for 88 year old local pioneer, Charles L. Osborne. Osborne was one of the few remaining true settlers of the area and leaves behind a colorful story of the pioneer times. His stories have been written by many western writer around the world. He came to the area at 18.
and settled with Oscar, his older brother, on Osborne Brothers Ranch.
Coach Rath listed a few players worth watching this year: Rick McClain, Wally Adams, Jim Crawford, Landy Harrell, Greg Hagland, Jim Flowers, Mick McKinnon, John Flowers, Rodney Bise, Fred Manzer, Gary Sanderson and John Weber.
