Lady Raider Volleyball had a successful travel week, beating both Liberty Bell and Soap Lake.
“We have been working hard on the mental game of volleyball, playing through adversity, and they have done exactly that,” Head Coach Nate Piturachsatit said on how the Lady Raiders found ways to win their matches.
In the Central Washington 2B North League opener Sept. 11 at Liberty Bell, the Lady Raiders on more than one occasion found themselves behind the Mt. Lions but dug deep and came back to win.
In a see-saw, non-league match Sept. 13 at Soap Lake, the LR team had to find a leader to pull the squad together.
“We had trouble finding a leader on the team to get everyone going, and we struggled through a couple of games,” Piturachsatit said, “but once again, they dug deep and came through in the end.”
The coach highlighted several players as being big contributors in the wins:
“Sean Garvin has been phenomenal,” he said. “She is a freshman setter who is also being a leader on the team, and our hitters are getting better looks with her sets.”
Piturachsatit praised Areielle White for her defensive play and great serving. Kayley Duclos is getting to be more of a threat on offense with every game played, he noted. Savannah Marin served up five aces against Soap Lake and is proving to be a great asset as a swing player.
Last night against Oroville the Lady Raiders were scheduled to play their first home match of the season.
Next up for LR is a road match against the 2013 CWL North Champs Bridgeport. The Fillies are 1-1 overall with a win over Soap Lake and a four-game loss to Brewster. The match in Bridgeport starts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Lady Raiders will host the Manson Trojans Sept. 23 at Gailord Nelson Gym starting at 5:30 p.m. The Trojans are 1-1, with a five-game win over Tonasket.
