Lake Roosevelt dropped its Central Washington 2B South opener at Warden Oct. 3 by the score of 38-7. The loss puts the Raiders at a 1-3 overall win-loss record and 0-1 in CWL 2B South play.
The Cougars, said Raider Head Coach Steve Files, are “ a good ball club and made very few mistakes and capitalized on most of ours.”
LR’s only touchdown came on the first drive of the game from an Austin Rosenbaum to Jacob Palmer connection for 35 yards. Octavio Alejandre’s extra point was good.
Files praised the LR defense. “Our defense played well for most of the game,” he said.
But Files was not happy with his offense’s performance after the first drive. “Our offense after the first drive left us in some bad field position,” he said.
Oscar Pakootas, Jesse Louie, and Jacob Palmer all had double digit tackles for the night. Bubba Garcia forced a fumble with Lucas Bird in for the recovery in the end zone that was ruled a touchback as the fumble was on a Warden possession going into the Raider endzone.
This week is Homecoming, and on Friday the Raiders will face the Mabton Vikings starting at 7 p.m. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Mabton dropped down from the 1A South Central Athletic Conference to the CWL 2B for the 2014-16 cycle. The Vikings are 2-3, overall starting the season with two wins over former SCAC members Highland and Granger. Mabton has lost its last three games by a combined 14 points. In their CWL South opener, the Vikings lost a close one to Kittitas, 22-20.
