News, views and advertising of the Grand Coulee Dam Area
It seemed to be pumping through the veins of people all over the community last week, but there couldn't have been more concrete evidence of the Pacific Northwest's support of the Seattle Seahawks for their bid to repeat last year's Superbowl victory than a big 12 emblazened on the great Grand Coulee Dam.
Friday night, as workers doing maintenance work on the largest nightly laser light show in the country tuned the lasers on the Grand Coulee Dam, they made a 300-foot tall blue and green "12" light up the spillway on the face of the dam, presumably to tune the green- and blue-making lasers.
Lumalaser, of Eugene, Ore., built the new laser show, which debuted last summer for $1.6 million.
But taking a break from the pre-programmed story of the dam, the river and the people it has affected, Friday night they showed a little Seahawks spirit.
They fired in lasers the symbol of some the most ardent football fans anywhere across the face of the mile-long dam that is the largest concrete structure in North America and the biggest single producer of electric power in America.
But the 12 spirit was prevalent elsewhere in the area, too.
Students at Lake Roosevelt Elementary School competed for the best Seahawk decorations, and several people showed up to an impromptu Saturday afternoon spirit rally at Crown Point, organized by friends on Facebook.
