Lady Raiders take second in league play

The Lady Raiders finished the 2014-15 regular basketball season with an 11-3 win-loss record in Central Washington 2B North, and a 12-8 overall record.

With the second-place finish, the Lady Raiders advance to the district tournament, playing Kittitas at 6:45 p.m. tonight at Eastmont Junior High.

If LR wins, they advance to play the winner of Brewster/Mabton at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Eastmont High School. If the Lady Raiders lose tonight, they will play the loser of Brewster/Mabton at Eastmont Junior High, again on Saturday, at 4:30 p.m.

In the last week of the regular season, the Lady Raiders faced Brewster at Brewster on Feb. 3, then hosted Okanogan for Senior Night last Friday. At Brewster, the Lady Raiders wanted a win to both secure second place and avenge their loss to the Bears at Grand Coulee — and they got it, beating the Bears by 12 points 47-35.

Riding the wave of the win, the Lady Raiders hosted the Central Washington North champion Okanogan Bulldogs for their senior night Friday. The Lady Raiders were stymied by the Bulldog defense early and often.

The Bulldogs were given many second chances because of missed rebounds. And LR missed many shots, allowing the Bulldogs to build a good lead and hold on to it throughout the game. LR also struggled with fouls, with two fouling out in the fourth quarter and a final score of 62-39 in the Bulldog win.

Tonight’s opponent, the Kittitas Coyotes come into the game 11-9 overall and 5-5 in Central Washington South play. The Coyotes closed the regular season with a win 48-36 over 1A Cle Elum-Roslyn Feb. 4, before losing to White Swan Friday, 70-31.
