News, views and advertising of the Grand Coulee Dam Area
Letter to the Editor
The voters in our Grand Coulee Area know how important it is to Support Strong Schools. The school levy passed, and it will allow the school district to maintain and operate the new debt-free school.
Several community volunteers helped by being “sign-walkers”: Steve and Sheila Sauer, Susan Kennedy, Marsha Fields, Joe Tynan, Marian Spackman, Jim Depew, myself. We also had Michael Williams walk around with a sign at the boys’ basketball game.
Megan and her son, Caden, walked in Electric City showing support for the levy.
The levy committee needed to let the community know about the levy, and that happened with the help of banner makers Ralph Rise and Karrie Utz and the Weinstein beverage company. John Huston was a great help by distributing posters and table tents to businesses. Ian Wilder created and donated our new buttons. They were a hit. Lisa Lakin, Carrie Derr and Joe Tynan sold them at basketball games.
Businesses were willing to put up support signs. Those were: Coulee Pioneer Museum, Loepp’s Furniture, Harvest Foods, LaPreza and The Star. Hometown Pizza and Grand Grinds monetarily supported the levy. We also had signature ads provided by individuals such as: Genabug and Redstar family, Tonasket, Adolph and LaPlante family, Joan Fammerisa Wak Wak, Jan and Michael Williams, the Picard Family and many others listed in previous Star issues.
Rotary, Chamber of Commerce and Lion’s Club and the Senior Citizen’s Center invited us to talk about the levy and the advantages of having it pass.
Grand Coulee Dam PTA and Foisy and Kennedy sponsored the support of the levy by placing ads in The Star.
Our committee, which included Rich Black, Joe Tynan and myself, had the additional support of Cathy Huston, Arron Derr and Roger Lucas, but the most praise goes to the voters in our community for their passage of this Grand Coulee Dam School levy.
