District taking comments on sale of Center School

Meeting March 23

The Grand Coulee Dam School District will provide an opportunity for public comment on the sale of Center School and its property, 5:30 p.m., Monday, March 23. The meeting will be held in the Lake Roosevelt Junior/Senior High School library, on the second floor of the new school complex.

The district’s board of directors declared the school building and surrounding property (about 8.5 acres) surplus at their meeting Feb. 23.

The public will have opportunity to comment on the sale or retention of the property.

The district purchased the building and site for $155,000 earlier this year with an interest of selling it so it would be on the tax roles.

Superintendent Dennis Carlson said interested parties are invited to the meeting or may send written comments to the district.

The district loaned itself the money and made the purchase from its capital improvement fund.

Any sale of the property would return those proceeds back into the capital fund.

The site has about 5.2 acres of highly usable land with some of the remaining acreage on a steep slope near the Center School building.

The building housed over 300 students until they were moved to the new school complex in September.
