New flags to be added in Isle of Flags

American Legion Post 157 will dedicate 10 new flags in honor of veterans in the Isle of Flags Memorial Day ceremony, beginning at 11 a.m., Monday, May 25.

Over 500 flags will fly at Spring Canyon Cemetery when volunteers complete the task this weekend.

In a separate promotion, the Legion Post will hold its annual Memorial Day breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m., Saturday, May 23, at the Vet's Center in Electric City. The breakfast is free; however, donations will be accepted.

In the Isle of Flags ceremony, the 10 honorees whose flags will fly for the first time are: Michael J. Alling, Earl DeCamp, George L. Farmer, Dick Gross, Donald N. Hope, Keith D. Hoverson, Robert S. Melton, Thaddeus Delbert Moore, Bernard J. Morin and Robert Kistler Rowe.

Retired Navy Capt. Richard Black will act as master of ceremonies for the program and Post Commander Cindy Jayne will give the Memorial Day address.

Boy Scout Troop 24 and Cub Scout Pack 24 will do the traditional folding of the flag and members of Post 157 will provide the color guard.

The first Memorial Day Dedication Program was held May 30, 1976.
