Shane Proctor placed third in all-around scoring in the Collegiate National Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming. He attends Northwest College in Powell, Wyo. HIs parents are Gordon and Kathy Proctor, both teachers at Lake Roosevelt High School. Proctor was the leading all-around college cowboy going into the nationals, nearly 200 points ahead of his nearest college competitor.

The Grand Coulee Public Library was renamed the Etheta Anderson City Library by the Grand Coulee City Council at its June 3 meeting, honoring Anderson, 87, who signed up as a library board member 30 years ago.
Flo's Cafe, Grand Coulee, has been featured in the May 17 edition of the New York Times after a freelance writer spent a week on vacation in the Grand Coulee Dam area last fall and ate a few meals at the cafe. The article described Grand Coulee as a town that still has the rawness of frontier about it and the eatery's clientele as mostly rugged, middle-aged men wearing cowboy boots and one-size-fits-all caps, whose girth overflows the smallish chairs.

The town of Coulee Dam announced this week that fluoride will be discontinued in both the east and west side water systems beginning June 20 through September 15. This is the third year that Coulee Dam has stopped putting fluoride in the town's water system due to the high cost of fluoride.

The June Bride Registry at Rawe & Rauch Hardware store in Grand Coulee, as listed in this week's Star, includes Joyce Elkins, Cindi Vaughn, Robyn Marchand and Cheryl Morris.
Showing at the Village Cinema in Coulee Dam this weekend is W.W. and the Dixie Dance Kings, starring Burt Reynolds, with Art Carney and Mel Tillis. The movie ad said W.W. lives in a '55 Olds, loves bubble gum, country music, robbing gas stations and a girl named Dixie.
The Grant County Sports Center, Electric City, is sponsoring a weekly "largest game fish" fishing contest, limited to four counties, with the fish weigh in at the Sports Center by 6 p.m. on every Sunday. This week's prize is a salt water spinning reel. On sale this week at GCSC is a Remington Mohawk 22 Rim Fire Automatic Rifle and scope for $65.95.
