Lady Raiders volleyball snap losing streak

Lady Raider Volleyball split the matches last week, losing at Liberty Bell Tuesday, but defeating Oroville at home Thursday.

At Liberty Bell the Lady Raiders struggled, losing in a three-game sweep.

“We didn’t look like the same team that defeated them in the opening of the season,” Head Coach Kasey Garvin explained. “My girls have been going through a funk on the volleyball court; we’ve just not been able to dig ourselves out of it.”

Coach Garvin did praise the effort of two players. “My subs, Rylee Pitner and Olivia Buttise, played the final two sets and competed very well for their limited playing time each week,” she said.

Garvin said Pitner was six of seven from the service line, and Buttise played great defense for the Lady Raiders.

Garvin looked for the team to have a good practice, shake off the funk and play a better game against Oroville.

The Lady Raiders did just that, snapping a losing streak and defeating the Hornets at home in four games. Garvin said the match was in question until the fourth game when “we came out in the fourth set, deciding that we needed to finish.”

Looking ahead to the next few weeks, Garvin said she wants her team “to focus on one point at a time during sets, and one game at a time to finish the season.”

To that end, the coach sets for her squad the goal of playing past the regular season.

“We want post-season play this year, and it’s going to take a lot of hard work on everyone’s part,” Garvin said.

Last night the Lady Raiders took on the Bridgeport Fillies at Bridgeport. Tomorrow at Gailord Nelson Gym, Lake Roosevelt will host the Manson Trojans, starting at 5:30 p.m. LR lost to Manson in Manson Sept. 22 in a three-game sweep.
