Raider tennis players fought hard in their matches but could not defeat the Oroville Hornets in Coulee Dam Thursday.
The boys' team picked up one win in singles competition out of the five total varsity contests. That was in the number-two singles, where Isaiah Baty defeated Elijah Burnell in two sets (6-4, 7-5).
"Isaiah started out down 2-5 but won five games in a row to win the first set," Head Coach Steve Archer said. "Then in the second set, (he) worked his forehand to produce several winners. He was pumped!"
In JV action, the doubles team of Aidan Derr and Morgan George defeated Hugus/Rice 8-6.
On the girls' side, the Raiders are still struggling from a lack of eligible players. Mary Clark, in the number-three singles match, was the only victor for the Raider girls. Clark defeated Ellamae Burnell in a marathon match that did not finish until 8 p.m.
"I was very pleased with the fight of our team, and all of them are improving," Archer said.
The match, originally scheduled for the March 25, against Davenport has been postponed to April 18 in Coulee Dam.
Last night the Raiders hosted the Liberty Bell Mountain Lions. Tomorrow, LR will take on the Wilbur-Creston Wildcats at Creston starting at 3:30 p.m.
