News, views and advertising of the Grand Coulee Dam Area
So you’ve always wanted to run across Grand Coulee Dam.
Now is your opportunity!
Join the third annual Run the Dam crowd, at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, and take part in one of the scheduled distance runs - 5K, 10K, or half marathon.
The event begins on the east side of Grand Coulee Dam, takes runners up through “old Grand Coulee’s” B Street, along Banks Lake and finishing at North Dam Park, site of the Harvest Festival.
Race coordinator Kelly Buche said Monday that 115 had registered for the race, 33 for the half marathon. “That’s more than double (over last year) on the half marathon number,” she said. Registration will continue until the day of the race, but will cost an extra $5 if you wait until Saturday.
Registration cost for the 5K is $30, for the 10K $40, and for the half marathon $50.
Awards include a “finish” medal for all who complete the run, plus gold, silver and bronze medals for the winners in each age category. These will be awarded at about 11 a.m. at North Dam Park.
Runners will also receive Run The Dam T-shirts as well as other gifts.
Busch explained that there will be staggered starts so there won’t be confusion at the beginning of the run event.
Those interested can register online at runthedam.com or at the Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce office.
Run officials said that they could still use a few more volunteers, and those interested could call the chamber at 633-3074.
