Chalk up two more in the win column for LR volleyball

Lake Roosevelt's volleyball team last week rallied against Waterville and swept Oroville to bring their win-loss record to 3-1.

The Lady Raiders found themselves down two sets to zero against Waterville Sept. 13, but came back to win the next three sets for the game.

"I'm very proud of the girls' perseverance," Head Coach Kasey Garvin said. "They picked up some momentum and got the win."

Aiyanna Picard and Mikaylah Thompson had 19 kills each that night. Sean Garvin had 45 assists. "She did a great job locating her strongest hitters," Coach Garvin said. "Megan Abel added to the equation with many on-target passes all five sets."

In volleyball, the first team to score 25 points wins, as long as they win by at least two points. The set continues beyond 25 points, if needed, to win by the two-point margin. The first team to win three sets wins the game. Set five, if needed, is typically played to 15 points instead of 25.

In Oroville on Thursday night the Lady Raiders won all of the first three sets to secure the game.

"We missed a lot of serves for the evening, but still managed 81 percent serving that night," said Coach Garvin. "I was able to play all 12 girls on my roster, which was a positive. Getting everyone game-speed experience makes the team better for the course of the season."

The Lady Raiders are scheduled to play Saturday in Tonasket against the Hornets. Their next home game will be Tuesday, Sept. 27, against Brewster.
