The Raider tennis team lost in Tonasket on April 11, then the boys tied and the girls won in Pateros on April 14.
In Tonasket against the Tigers, the Raider boys lost 4-1, and the girls lost 5-0.
“Tonasket has a very strong team,” said Raider Head Coach Steve Archer.
Some of the closer matches of the day included Cristian Ruiz and Terry Yazzie in the boys double, which they lost to Vance Frazier and Joe Schell 7-6 (7-5), 6-2; Hannah Wapato’s loss to Maria Garcia 6-4, 6-3; and Mary Clark’s and Tarissa Clark’s loss to Julie Bello and Brianna Gutierrez 6-4, 6-3.
Things fared better for the Raiders in Pateros, where the boys’ team tied 2-2, and the girls swept, 5-0.
Savannah Hobrecht, down 4-1 against Lupe Martinez, made a comeback. She “started an amazing run, shooting ahead to 7-4, having won six games in a row,” Archer said. “Then there was another shift in momentum and she dropped two games, putting it at 7-6. Then Savannah came back to win the final and deciding game. She was elated!”
Aidan Derr at number one singles was behind 1-4 before coming back to tie at 6-6, but failed to close it out. “It was a real seesaw battle in the last two games,” Archer said.
The Raiders are having a busy week of tennis this week. They were scheduled to compete against Entiat yesterday, results of which will be reported next week. On Thursday, the Raiders travel to Oroville for a 4 p.m. match against the Hornets. And on Friday, April 21st, the Raiders will host the Omak Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. in Coulee Dam.
