Raymond William Harrington Sr., 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Grand Coulee, Washington, on Tuesday, June 6, 2017.
He was born March 20, 1931, in Tacoma, Washington, to Raymond Daniel Harrington and Hazel (Doyle) Harrington. He lived most of his life between Kettle Falls, Washington, and Grand Coulee. Raymond joined the service in July of 1951, and served at Suwon Airbase as a Medic for 18 months. He married Neva J. Winings on August 10, 1953, shortly after he was stationed at Smyrna, Tennessee Air Force Base. After his military service he worked construction and carpentry at places such as Boundary, Chief Joseph and Grand Coulee Dam, as well as the Bacon Siphon and road construction.
After his retirement, he coached AAU Girls' and Boys' Basketball, ASA Girls' Softball, high school softball and junior high football. He also was a scorekeeper for many years at local basketball games. His hobbies included fishing, hunting and gardening. One other hobby he loved was beekeeping with his son, Tim.
Ray leaves behind his wife of almost 64 years, Neva; his children: Phyllis Harrington, Steve Harrington, Robin (Troy) Sanford, Ray (Donna) Harrington Jr.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers: Donald, Emmett, Francis, Johnny and Robert; an infant sister; his son, Timothy Ray; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.
Those who knew him know that he wanted to make his wife happy. She has chosen to have a private ceremony at the property that they love, where he will join his eldest son.
