Delbert Saul Gobin passed away on June 16, 2017 in Independence, Oregon after a few months of illness. He was born February 10, 1923 in Monse, Washington to Solomon Gobin and Margaret Lenner. Del lived his early life in the Omak area. He joined the US Navy during World War II making him one of The Greatest Generation. Del served on the USS Macon as a gunner's mate. In 1942 Del married Naomi Hull and they were married for 57 years until Naomi passed away in 1999. Del and Naomi had two children. Their son, Delbert Tracy Gobin, died in 1993.
Del could do almost any job from road construction to bus mechanic. He spent much of his adult life in Grand Coulee, Washington where he worked for the school district until he retired in 1984. While living in Grand Coulee he was a long time member of the Volunteer Fire Department and the Volunteer Police Force. After retiring, he and Naomi moved back to Omak to be near family.
Delbert is survived by his daughter, Jennifer & her husband, Jack Bailes with whom he lived in Corvallis, Oregon the last 14 years of his life. He has three grandsons; Jeffrey Bailes, Jason Bailes and wife Jenna, Tyler Bailes plus many grand dogs, cats, chickens and ducks.
While in the Navy Del received many medals. When stationed in New Guinea he was shot and seriously wounded while on patrol. Jennifer has been pursuing the awarding of a Purple Heart Medal which Del should receive posthumously.
A burial service will be held at a later time.
