Carol L. Misale, 89, of Missoula, Montana, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, with her husband and family by her side.
Born December 8, 1927, in Richmond, Michigan, she is the last of nine siblings. Her parents were Mathew and Lilly Sillanpaa.
Carol worked at a hospital in Ishpeming, Michigan, before her marriage to Vito J. Misale on December 10, 1946. The couple moved to Butte, Montana, a few years after their marriage. They also lived in Grand Coulee, Washington, and Oregon, but went back to Montana to retire in Missoula. Carol was active in the March of Dimes, Easter Seals and Saint Jude’s. She loved music and knew the words to just about every song. She enjoyed crocheting and made many beautiful items. She was an avid U of M Grizzly fan and looked forward to game day.
All of Carol’s inherited traits translated well as a mother. In addition to being a devoted mother to her children, as a grandmother and great-grandmother she showed so much love and dedication. They brought her much pride and happiness.
She was a loving, stay-at-home mother and wife, where she raised four children and some of their friends; there was always room in her heart and at the table for extras.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her “Big Mom” all 5’2”, 105 pounds. Only God knows why her first grandchild gave her that title, but she went on to be known as Big Mom by eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and their friends. They all loved spending time with Big Mom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, five sisters, and one grandson.
Survivors include: her husband, Vito J. Misale, Missoula; daughter, Joanne (Daniel) Davidson, Electric City, Washington; daughter, Nancy (Bruce) Berry, Electric City; son, Joseph (Mary) Misale, Missoula; and son, James (Sharon) Misale, Missoula.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at a later date.
