Ladies are digging and killing it

Lady Raider volleyball is killing it, having nabbed a couple more wins to go 6-0 for the season.

The Lady Raiders defeated Okanogan on the road on Sept. 19, winning three sets to the Lady Bulldogs' two.

"Great win for the Lady Raiders," Head Coach Kasey Garvin said. "It's been a number of years in the making, but the girls conquered the evening with five very long sets for the win."

"There were a lot of long volleys in each set accounting for the high accounting of digs my girls tallied up, finishing the evening with 82," Garvin said.

A dig is when the ball almost hits the ground, but a player is able to hit it back up into play.

Kill leaders were Addison Hansen, with 15; Sean Garvin, with 13; Ellie Hansen, with nine; and Olivia Ludwig, with seven, adding to the Lady Raiders' 47 kills total for the night.

Chasity Williams, Emily Abel, and Rylee Pitner all had 100 percent serving for the evening. "I was very proud of their perseverance," Garvin said.

Hosting the Tonasket Lady Tigers on Saturday, the Lady Raiders closed out in three sets.

"Our 6/2 offense worked well against the Tigers," Garvin said. "We were able to spread the offense around to all of our hitters. Our defensive game is also picking up steam; they're getting better at reading hitters and getting themselves into their perimeter defensive positions."

Rylee Pitner has served 100 percent consistently for six games.

Sean Garvin finished the night with six aces, seven kills, 12 assists, one block and block assist, and 15 digs; and she served 20 of 21 for 95 percent.

Addison Hansen had five kills and one block at the net, and nine digs on defense. Olivia Ludwig had six kills, four digs, and 80 percent serving. Ellie Hansen added three kills and four blocks. Chasity Williams tallied up two aces, served 90 percent, and on defense had a whopping 20 digs.

The Raiders played in Brewster Sept. 26, results of which will be reported in next week's Star.

They host the Soap Lake Lady Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 28, in Coulee Dam, with the junior varsity squad scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
