Patricia Ann Roe Mills Lucas passed away peacefully at Coventry House in Othello, Washington, on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.
Patricia was born in Lander, Wyoming, to Ernest Roe and Iva May (McCoy) Patrick on April 14, 1941. She was one of four children. She spent many years living with her grandparents, Floyd (Pop) and Susie McCoy Rice in Grand Coulee, Washington. Her favorite memories were always the time spent working at the family store, The Sunset (currently known as Flo's Café), and her high school years there. She graduated from Grand Coulee High School in 1958 and every year she looked forward to their class reunions, attending her last one in 2016.
If you knew Pat, you knew that two of her greatest passions were cooking and cake decorating. She made most of the wedding, birthday, anniversary, etc. cakes in the Grand Coulee area all throughout the 60s and 70s. Even when she left the area, people from home continued to contact her for those special events and she would always look forward to creating those cakes. She loved being around people and helping, any way she could. She was a cook at the Green Hut, Wildlife, Continental, Smitty's, and other restaurants in the area. It was her life profession until an injury prevented her from being on her feet and in the kitchens.
For the last six months, she lived in Coventry House, which was the best due to her need for assisted living. She even began teaching others cake decorating the last several months of her life. Being able to use a talent you have all the way to your last breath is a priceless gift.
She was married in 1958 and had six children during that marriage to Howard (Gig) Mills, divorcing in 1975. She then met and married Eugene Lucas in 1976 and moved to the Tacoma area until his death in July of 1988. She lived in various areas of Washington after his death, but her home was always in Grand Coulee.
She was preceded in death by both parents, and a brother, "Junior" Ernest Roe Jr.
She is survived by her sister, Judy Roe Mefford (Jack); brother, Floyd Roe (Diana); and her seven children: Jaylene Mills English (Mike), Dale Mills (Lori), Jolena Mills, Carleta Mills Alexander (Dave), Kaerece Mills Purbeck (Frank), Joyelle Mills, and Darna Mills.
She lived for her grandkids; each and every one of them brought a smile to her face. She has 25 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Spring Canyon Cemetery on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 1 p.m., officiated by two of her best friends: Roy and Arlene Brewer.
