The Raider basketball team played three games in the past week, losing to Brewster on the road, defeating Liberty Bell at home, then beating the Eagles in Soap Lake.
In Brewster on Dec. 5, the Raiders lost 64-44 against the brutal Brewster Bears.
"We knew going in that they're the team to beat," Raider Head Coach Jeremy Crollard said. "They're well coached, they're very disciplined. The thing that did us in was the third quarter, we had 12 turnovers. Their lead went from five (points) to 21 with those turnovers. Our kids learned a lesson."
Hosting Liberty Bell in Coulee Dam, the Raiders showed no mercy, defeating the Mountain Lions 73-25.
"We got the monkey off our back," Crollard joked about their first win of the season. "These kids, they're ready, they want to win. They're determined. We jumped right off the bat pretty hot; we played good defense. We put some pressure on them and they made a few mistakes early."
The Raiders led 42-14 at the half, 62-18 at the end of the third, and 73-25 at the end of the game.
"Trevor [McCraigie] was our floor leader; he played a great game," Crollard continued. "Cameron St. Pierre played great defense. Our younger guys towards the end of the game got to come in and get some playing time. That's always a big key as well."
In Soap Lake on Saturday, the Raiders were down 26-25 at the half, but came back and held the Eagles to only six points in the second half for a final score of 57-32.
"In the first half, it was a really scrappy game, and some calls didn't go our way," Crollard said. "But the kids battled in the second half. Hunter Whitelaw had a huge game for us, 18 points, and led us in rebounds as well. Kyle Edmo had 12 points and five or six rebounds."
The Raiders played Manson last night, results of which will be online at http://www.grandcoulee.com and in next week's Star.
The Raiders play in Tonasket against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thurs, Dec. 14. They'll play at home on Saturday, Dec. 16, against the Okanogan Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. in a non-league exhibition.
