Josephine "Jo" Switzer, 92, of Grand Coulee, Washington, passed away Friday morning, March 31, 2017, in the long-term care unit of Coulee Medical Center. Jo was born January 7, 1925, in Staunton, Illinois, to Mike and Agnes Martinovich. In 1947, she married Robert E. "Bob" Switzer, with whom she shared just a few days shy of 30 wonderful years. Jo's lifelong occupation and greatest joy was as a wife, mother, and grandmother; though during the 1970s she did serve as cook for the hospital in Grand Coulee for 10 years. An active member of the Grand Coulee Senior Center, Jo enjoyed bowling and traveling to Europe, various places on road trips, and an occasional junket to Nevada. She was an avid fan of the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks and the Gonzaga Bulldogs, watching them every chance she had. Her family and many friends were very important to Jo. Her family also wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caring staff of Coulee Medical Center's Long-Term Care for their loving attention to Jo.
Predeceased by her loving husband in 1977, Robert Switzer, and her four sisters, Jo's legacy lives on through her two sons: Anthony "Tony" Switzer and wife Gyl, and David Switzer; and grandson, Matthew Switzer.
A celebration of Jo's life was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Strate Funeral Home of Grand Coulee, Washington, with inurnment following at Spring Canyon Cemetery in Grand Coulee.
Her family requests that any memorial contributions be made in her name to the Grand Coulee Senior Center.
