News, views and advertising of the Grand Coulee Dam Area
On Friday, February 2, 2018, James Trygve Oliver joined his beloved wife and best friend, Vicki. Jim was born on May 31, 1939, to Charles and Mildred Oliver in East Palestine, Ohio. As a child, he lived in Ohio, Texas and California. In 1957, he was the first of the nine children in his family to graduate high school. On December 6, 1958, he married Vicki VanArtsdalen, and they enjoyed 54 years of adventures. While living in central coastal California they had four sons: Geary (Lynette), Jim (Lavonne), Jon (Valerie), and Joe (Katrina). Jim started his career with Bell Communications in 1966. He worked for Pacific Bell and UsWest for 35+ years in California and then in Washington when they moved to the Grand Coulee area in 1975.
Jim and Vicki loved riding motorcycles together and it was a favorite activity for their whole family. He also enjoyed tinkering with old cars and burning rubber on the quarter mile, with his sons representing the family trademark, The Rolling O's. If you had the pleasure of knowing Jim, he made everyone feel like family. He would welcome you with a warm smile, contagious laugh, and a cold beer. When the dust settled and the day closed, Jim's greatest joy and priority was always family. He was the definition of a true family man, and loved nothing more than spending time with his sons and grandchildren.
Per his request, no services will be held, but his legacy will live on through his sons and their children. He was an extraordinary man, and will be remembered by all.
