The Lake Roosevelt Raiders’ baseball team, playing against the Manson Trojans, split the games of a doubleheader, losing the first and winning the second.
The Trojans beat the Raiders by a score of 8-5 in the first game Saturday in Manson.
“Tony Nichols pitched well, but our defense made too many mistakes on the defensive side of the ball,” remarked Raider Head Coach Billy Nicholson.
In batting, Nichols went 3-4 at the plate and scored two runs. Hunter Whitelaw walked twice and scored two runs.
In the second game, the Raiders emerged the victor at 6-2, scoring four runs in an extra, eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie.
“I was proud how our team competed after Manson tied the game in the bottom of the seventh,” Nicholson said.
Whitelaw was the starting pitcher of the second game. “He didn’t give up a run and had seven Ks in four innings,” Nicholson noted.
Tyson Nicholson pitched the last four innings of the game, striking out 10 batters. Despite giving up two runs in the bottom of the seventh, Nicholson shut Manson down in the eighth, finalizing the Raider victory.
“It was a great win for our young team,” Coach Nicholson said.
