Thanks for tremendous support for brother

Two months ago, my big brother, George Davis III, was hospitalized and diagnosed with Leukemia. This was a huge shock to our family and all his friends. I always saw my big brother as invincible; you could hit him in the head with a two-by-four and it wouldn’t slow him down. Then all of the sudden, he got slowed way down by something invisible to the naked eye.

I wanted to do something to help. I knew George and his wife would be in need financially, so I decided to hold a benefit dinner for him. This past Saturday, the dinner was held at The Moose Lodge. Now, let me tell you, I have never been so in awe, proud of, and grateful for our home community of Grand Coulee! You as a community truly came together to help the people I love, and for that I will be eternally grateful. The success of the night belongs to you.

Saturday’s dinner involved a few different ways for the community to contribute to George, Amber, and their kids. Altogether, about 150 tickets were sold to the dinner. The Seattle Experience Weekend Getaway Raffle sold roughly 500 tickets, with a local winner. There was a large donation can at the entrance that filled, and the 40-plus auction items brought in over $3,000. Looking at all these numbers, I couldn’t help but shed a tear for the generosity of our hometown. To the community members, friends, and family who came to support George and Amber, thank you.

There are many people and businesses that made Saturday possible and who deserve recognition as well. First, Kathy Baty, you were my right-hand woman in the planning process. You found volunteers, were a huge part of advertising, and knew what needed done before I could even ask. Charlene Fountain, for designing the dinner tickets. The Star newspaper and Chamber of Commerce for advertising. Many hands came to help with setup: Herb and Linda Sherburne, Deb and Mark Dunlap, Diane Kohout, Toria Sandine, Dale Baty, Lonna Bussert, Hoan Youmans, Mike Baker, Troy Ritter, George Davis Jr, and others I am sure I missed.

The raffle and the auction were the biggest successes of the night, and these would not have been possible without their sponsors. The raffle items were donated by Seattle businesses and friends, namely Silver Cloud Hotels, Bar Ferdinand, Frankie Jo’s Ice Cream, Pier 57 (Wings over Washington and Great Seattle Wheel), and Mike and Kara Griffith for the Crab Pot Dinner. A long list of sponsors for the raffle: The Moose Lodge, Kathy Baty, Taylor’s Custom Creations (our grandparents), Susan Yazzie, Has Been Crafts (Cle Elum), Jose Santistevan, Coulee Massage Therapy, Jenn Kelton, La Presa Mexican Restaurant, Dannie Masker, Bill Tewald, Stacy Davis (Mom), AG Link, Jack Thune, George Davis Jr (Dad), Jess & Kerry Utz, Coulee Quilters, Kathleen Sorrels, Coulee Carpet Cleaning, Les Schwab, Melissa Day Imagery, George Davis Sr (Grandfather), Joy McClure, Heaven-Sent Computer Services, Janel Hoffer & Justin King (Seattle), Zach Chisholm (Seattle), Loepp Furniture, Coulee Playland, K Diamond K Ranch (Republic), Rainbow Beach Resort (Inchelium), and Desert Canyon Golf Resort (Orondo). A huge thank-you to all these sponsors and to the community that turned their donations into the money that was needed.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

Patty Davis – Little Sister
