Golfers tee into the wind

The golf team faced the winds and hit the greens in Orondo, Wilbur, and at home as things green up here in Eastern Washington.

At the Desert Canyon golf course in Orondo April 10, Raider golfers played nine holes against golfers from Oroville and Riverside Christian.

“The boys played pretty well overall, especially Darin, Conner, and Derek, who all posted their best scores of the season so far,” remarked head coach Steve Files.

Darin Whiteman finished one under par on the par-36 nine holes at Desert Canyon. Conner Emerson finished with 39, and Derek Whiteman with 40.

Raiders faced 20 mph winds playing on Big Bend Golf Course in Wilbur April 12, competing with golfers from Wilbur-Creston and St. John-Endicott high schools.

Files said the winds “created tough scoring conditions.”

Darin Whiteman again led the Raiders, with a 46.

The weather didn’t give the Raiders a break at home either as they played at Banks Lake Golf Course with Wilbur-Creston golfers on April 16, facing rain showers and 20 mph winds.

“Both teams battled hard in extremely tough conditions,” FIles said.

Dylan Steinert’s 48 was the best LR score in the nine holes played. Wilbur golfer Carson Odegaard scored the best out of anyone, with 42.

“The team has been upbeat and competing hard so far this season,” Files said. “We’re looking forward to some better weather, but until then we’re getting good experience playing in challenging weather conditions.”

The golf team is going to Brewster’s Spring Invitational today, April 18, to play on Gamble Sands Golf Course at 11 a.m.

On April 25, they play in Oroville at 2:30 p.m.
