Mary Ann Berland, 81, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 22, 2018, in Wilbur, Washington. She was born January 8, 1937, in Billings, Montana, to John W. and Ruth Egan.
On November 17, 1956, nineteen-year-young Mary Ann Egan married Barney R. Berland in Livingston, Montana. In the mid-1980s, Barney and Mary Ann purchased the gas station at 212 Midway Avenue in Grand Coulee, Washington, and converted it into a convenience store – "Midway Mini Mart." A lifelong horse lover, Mary Ann enjoyed going for long rides in the hills and was a member of Ridge Riders Rodeo in Grand Coulee, as well as belonging to both the Grand Coulee Eagles and Moose clubs. At age 60, Mary Ann traded in riding the hills with horse and saddle, and became a familiar site in "Mary Ann" her green 4x4 Ford pickup. Mary Ann could never sit still, except to watch a favorite game show or for a friendly game of pinochle at the Grand Coulee Senior Center. When not four-wheeling through mud-holes, Mary Ann enjoyed working in her flower beds, going to the casino, creating and selling homemade crafts at bazaars, and adopting every stray cat that needed a home. Her greatest love, though, was always spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband of 29 years in 1985, Barney Berland; mother, Ruth Egan; sister, Yvonne Beebe; grandson, Leon Weed and significant other, Jerry Rodgers.
Mary Ann's legacy lives on through her son, John Berland (Mona); grandson, Joseph Berland (Kim); great-grandson, Seth Adams Weed; traditional son, Del Ostenberg (Peggy) and their family - grandchildren: Dawn Ensminger (Victor), Alexandria Boyd and Trisha Ostenberg; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Karen Braunstader and her family – one niece and one great-nephew and four other nephews.
A celebration of Mary Ann's life will take place at noon on Monday, April 30, 2018, at Strate Funeral Home in Grand Coulee, Washington.
Her family requests that contributions be made in her memory to the Grand Coulee Eagles or Ridge Riders.
