Flowers earns title of district champ in shot put
Four Raider boys will be competing at the state level in Cheney this weekend following success at the district level.
Lake Roosevelt competitors at state will include district shot put champion Steven Flowers, who threw for a distance of 46 feet, 8.5 inches at the May 18 2B District 5 & 6 State Qualifier event in Kittitas to win first place last week.
“Steven earned his spot on the state team with his first throw in the first event of the meet,” Head Coach Lori Adkins said. “That really set the tone for the day, and the Raiders didn’t look back.”
Also going to state is Elijah Harris, who will compete in the high jump. Harris placed fifth at district with a high jump measuring 5 feet, 4 inches.
Devon Hobrecht and Traey Clark, along with fellow runners Flowers and Harris, will compete in the 4x100-meter relay race. The quartet placed fourth in the event Saturday with a time of 46.68 seconds.
“It has been a number of years since LR has sent a relay team to state,” Adkins said. “Our relays have been emerging over the past few years. It’s exciting that the group has qualified!”
The state competition will take place at Eastern Washington University in Cheney from Thursday, May 24 through Saturday.
