Three local students fulfilled the requirements to earn their high school (HS21) diploma through Big Bend Community College during the 2017-2018 academic year. Their accomplishments were celebrated at a special graduation ceremony Wednesday, June 13, on the main campus of Big Bend Community College. The first local students completed the program two years ago, and this year three more students - Stephanie Guin, Patricia Hix, and Dorothy Park - reached this significant milestone.
The HS21 program at BBCC offers students ages 21 and older the opportunity to finish their high school requirements by producing a portfolio of evidence based on a combination of prior learning, community service, occupational experience, high school transcripts, current appraisals, special projects, and HS21 coursework. Some students in the Big Bend Community College service area of Grant and Adams counties enter the HS21 program each year with few-to-no high school credits and then build a portfolio of evidence that fulfills the HS21 requirements and allows them to take the next step in their academic and career goals.
