Elmer City appoints new council member
Elmer City resident Terje Berg was approved to be on the town council at the town’s Aug. 9 meeting. Berg has lived in the area for three years and said that his reason for wanting to be on the council is that he wants to know what is going on in the town.
Total fire restrictions for Lake Roosevelt
Due to extreme conditions, all fires at Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area are prohibited, effective 12:01 a.m., Friday, Aug. 17, until further notice. No open flames are permitted. This includes, but is not limited to, all fires in NPS-provided fire rings and boxes, charcoal fires, tiki torches, incense burners, candles, and propane campfires. Exceptions include self-contained propane or gas stoves or lanterns.

Softball tourney to be held Aug. 16-17
The local recreational league’s Kenny Hearn Summer Classic softball tournament starts on Thursday, Aug. 16, at North Dam Park with games being played on both the upper and lower ball fields. Games start at both 6 p.m. and 7:15 p.m on both days.
School cafeteria prices go up
Breakfast at Lake Roosevelt Schools has gone up a nickel, to $2.10. Lunch prices have increased by a dime, for a total cost of $2.75 on the elementary side, and $3.05 on the high school side.
Center School sale in the survey process
The survey process is underway for the sale of the Center School in Grand Coulee from the Grand Coulee Dam School District to Centerline Development. The buyer and seller are splitting the cost of the survey.
