The Lake Roosevelt Raider cross country team ran at the Lake Woods Golf Course in Bridgeport on Sept. 11, where the highlight came from the junior high race.
“Our standout athlete from this meet was definitely Chase Marchand,” said Coach Travis Adams. “Chase is a seventh-grader that battled it out with eighth-graders and took first by less than a second at the finish line.”
“It came down to a photo finish,” added Coach Ann Green.
Marchand finished the 1.5-mile race in 8 minutes, 52.65 seconds, just ahead of eighth-grade Brewster runner Enrique Campos, who finished in 8:52.95.
“He is a natural runner that has a real passion for the sport,” Adams said of Marchand. “He gets excited when it’s time to run long distances.”
“Another standout athlete we had that day was Hannah Wapato,” Adams said. “She finished eighth overall in the high-school girls’ race. There were a lot of good runners there, but her consistent pace earned her a top-10 finish.”
Wapato ran the two-mile high school girls’ race in 14:25.
“I feel Kyona (Edmo) had an outstanding run,” Green also noted. “She really pushed her limits and ran very hard. I was impressed and happy for her finish.”
Kyle Edmo was the top finisher for the high-school boys, finishing 14th overall with a time of 11:56.
“We are showing improvement as a team and look to get stronger and faster within the next few weeks,” Adams said.
