Soccer players find their niches

The Lady Raiders soccer team maintained a 3-2 lead against the Manson Lady Trojans in Grand Coulee, nabbing a victory in their first home match Sept. 11.

"Bryn Chaffee was the first to score, breaking through Manson's defense with a perfectly placed shot," stated Head Coach Casey Moore. "Maddie Toulou followed suit with a first-half score, and Bryn took advantage of a ball deflected off the goalie and easily scored the third and final goal for LR."

At halftime it was obvious that some lightning, thunder, and rain were approaching, but there were no delays and the girls were able to finish the game before the weather arrived. "It was cold, though," Moore said.

"LR's defense played better than ever," Moore said. "New defender Vista Martin stepped into the left fullback position and was able to shut it down. Lillie LaPlace also played an impressive defensive game at sweeper."

"Despite standout goalie Chelsea Timentwa's best efforts, Manson scored two goals in the second half," Moore continued. "Timentwa blocked an impressive 12 goals, her career record."

"I'm pleased with the improvements, especially with players finding their niche on the field," Moore said. "It's great to see them really own a position."

The Lady Raiders were scheduled to play Brewster on the road yesterday, results of which will be reported in next week's Star. They play the Tonasket Lady Tigers at home in Grand Coulee at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 18.
