Cook off raises funds for senior center

At the Second Annual Chili Cook Off held at Banks Lake Golf Course Saturday, Cheri Thomas won for her second year in a row, winning a 12 Tribes Casino package, including a $100 gaming voucher, a $100 spa voucher, and $50 in meal vouchers. The prize was donated by the casino.

A Huckleberry raffle raised $132, and the chili cook off raised $852, making for a total of $984 raised for the senior center and meals program.

Second place went to Herb Sherburne, who won a handcrafted afghan made by Fawn Brashears.

The chefs didn't serve their own chili, so those attending would not know whose chili they are voting for.

Winning quart jars of huckleberries in a raffle were Scott Hunter and Jerry Sands, neither of whom have a clue how to bake a pie. The huckleberries were picked by Grand Coulee Dam Senior Center President Cheryl Hoffman.
