Volleyball finishes season; at districts

The Lady Raiders won one and lost one in a volleyball district tournament held in Royal City last week, and a win against Manson on Thursday would send them to state.

Against Tri-Cities Prep Oct. 25, the Lady Raiders lost in three sets, 19-25, 21-25, and 14-25

"We led in the first two sets and then lost momentum," said Head Coach Teri Sue Reed. "It was a game of really high and really low for us. We are working hard on evening it out."

But the Lady Raiders did better against White Swan, winning the 3-1 with the scores 23-25, 25-16, 25-21, and 25-21.

On Oct. 23 in Soap Lake, the Lady Raiders won a close match, winning 3-2 in their last game of the regular season.

"It was a mentally tough game for my team, as they have lost the last game to Soap Lake for several years now," remarked Reed. "They really let that get the best of them. I'm proud of them for overcoming their fears and playing up to their potential in game five."

The set scores for the game were 25-22, 20-25, 23-25, 25-21, and 15-4.

"Mikaylah Thompson dominated the offense with 23 kills, and Addison Hansen guarded the net with five blocks," Reed said about key players in the game.

"I feel like we have been holding back this season, out of fear," Reed said. "I just want these girls to understand their full potential and believe in themselves. I truly think that we have the most talented team in the league. It's now time for everyone to step up together and play as one. No better time to peak than right now, heading into playoffs!"

The Lady Raiders play the Manson Lady Trojans in Royal City on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. in the main gym.

"It's do or die," Reed said. "Winner to the SunDome in Yakima for state, loser goes home."
