The boys' and girls' Nespelem basketball teams had very successful seasons this year.
The Nespelem Eagles boys' team were undefeated, 10-0 for the fourth year in a row under head Coach Marion Ives. Ives was pleased with the students' hard work and dedication, not only to basketball, but also in the classroom. The dominance of the boys' basketball team came as no surprise, having become a tradition over the last four years.
The 2018 Nespelem Lady Eagles girls' basketball team ended up with seven wins and three losses, a huge turnaround from last season's 1-9 record.
The Lady Eagles improved on their fundamentals, on discipline both on and off the court, and on coming together as a team to overcome adversity, Coach Gabe Aubertin said.
The girls at one point had a seven-game win streak.
In the last two games of the season, the girls lost a very tough and close game to Northport after beating them in the first game of the doubleheader. The last game was against a tough and talented Inchelium team that had beaten the Lady Eagles at the start of the season.
The Lady Eagles showed a lot of heart and toughness in the final two games and left everything they had on the court. Coach Aubertin said he is proud of how hard each of the 11 players worked this season, and he saw major improvements in each of the players.
The Lady Eagles were also excited to wear new uniforms provided by the Colville Confederated Tribes and had a "we look good; we are going to play good" attitude.
Coaches Ives and Aubertin both thanked the tribes and the parents and guardians of the players for a great season, and are looking forward to continued success in the future of the programs.
