Lady Raiders come to end of season that had its moments

The Lady Raiders lost their regionals playoff game Friday, ending their 2018-19 season.

Lake Roosevelt lost in Tumwater against Willapa Valley, 44-35.

The Lady Raiders led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter, and 16-14 at the end of the half. Willapa Valley pulled away in the second half, scoring 30 points to LR's 19, leading to their nine-point win.

The Lady Raiders' final win-loss record is 13-3 in league play, 15-9 overall.

Highlights of the season include defeating the top-ranked Brewster Lady Bears 51-33, and the Liberty Bell Mountain Lions 51-49 towards the end of the regular season.

"As the season has come to a end, it's been a great run with this group," said Coach Matthew Pleasants. "From having a strong start to the season, to the struggles in the middle of the season, to bouncing back going on an 8-9 game winning streak, knocking off the the top two teams in the league, beating the 10th, 12th, 13th and 16th ranked teams in the state at the time, and being one of the final 16 teams left in the state for our classification is something everyone should be proud of."

"Yeah, we did not end where we exactly wanted to be," Pleasants continued, "but the growth the girls had on the court and off the court of proving to themselves they could put themselves in the position to succeed shows a lot about their characters. The senior group continued what was started from the season before, and I believe they have continued to build the path and standard that their peers will follow when they step on that court. ... This was a great season and I hope they all have memories that will last them a lifetime."
