A bull-riding champion will be teaching kids the daredevil sport of bull riding in Nespelem next week.
Local legend Shane Proctor — former Grand Coulee resident, Lake Roosevelt High School graduate, and the 2011 National Finals Rodeo World Champion Bull Rider — is hosting his 10th annual bull- and steer-riding school at the Nespelem Rodeo Grounds next Tuesday and Wednesday, April 2-3. The bull-riding school starts at 9 a.m. A barrel-racing school follows April 4-5.
The bull-riding school is all booked up, but is free to watch.
Proctor will be joined by fellow professional bull-riding athlete Derek Kolbaba, among others.
At 5 p.m. on April 2, there will be an Indian taco feed, auction, and meet-and-greet with the professional bull riders at the Nespelem Community Center, where $8 buys you an Indian taco, beverage, and dessert.
“Numerous local persons and businesses have donated all kinds of interesting items for the auction,” a flier for the event reads.
Funds raised from the event are to be used for the Annual Nespelem Jr. Rodeo, which this year will be held April 27-28.
Those looking for further information on the rodeo, taco feed, or auction can call Jackson’s Chevron at 634-4395 or D. Palmer at 509-978-9073.
