Young Raider baseball team season ends with losses and wins

The Raiders baseball team suffered a couple of close losses at the hands of the Manson Trojans last week, but defeated Bridgeport twice in a doubleheader to close the season.

A doubleheader in Coulee Dam May 2 saw the Raiders lose 8-6 and 3-0 to the Trojans.

Hunter Whitelaw, pitching for the Raiders, struck out 11 Trojans in the six innings of the first game. Tyson Nicholson struck out two in the next three innings.

The Raiders' six runs were scored by Brit Egbert, Whitelaw, and Nick Baker in the fifth inning; and by Whitelaw, Malachi Rasmussen, and Cameron St. Pierre in the sixth.

St. Pierre struck out five batters while pitching in the second game.

Not qualifying for a postseason, the Raiders' last games were held yesterday, a doubleheader at home against Bridgeport, whom they beat soundly.

Lake Roosevelt won the first game 11-0, the second 23-2.

The Raiders have a win-loss record in the Central Washington 2B of 6-8, 8-9 overall.

"We do have a young team this season with no seniors," Head Coach Billy Nicholson said. "I felt we improved throughout the season and look forward to next season."
