Filing period over, choices of candidates listed

Some incumbents challenged, some unchallenged, some choose not to run

With the filing period now closed, we can see which Coulee citizens have thrown their hats into the ring for positions on local councils and commissions, and which incumbents either filed to keep their spot, or chose not to file.

In Electric City, Birdie Hensley and Bob Rupe have filed to be candidates for a two-year term in council position 2, for which incumbent Rich McGuire hasn’t filed.

Brian Buche has filed for the four-year term for council position 3, currently held by Hensley.

Cate Slater is running against incumbent Carol Nordine for council position 4, another four-year position.

Cheryl Hoffman is running against incumbent Lonna Bussert for council position 5, also a four-year term.

And Diane Kohout is running against current Councilmember Aaron Derr for the mayor position, a two-year term.

In Grand Coulee, Gary Carriere filed to keep his spot in council position 3; Alan Cain has filed to stay in council position 5 and faces challenger Tracy Wright. Current Mayor Paul Townsend has filed to stay in office. He’s facing a challenge by Cameron Whitney. All of those positions are for four-year terms.

In Coulee Dam, Mayor Bob Poch has filed to continue a two-year term in office. Incumbent Merv Schmidt has filed for council position 2, a 2-year term; and incumbent Keith St. Jeor has filed for a four-year term in council position 5.

Ben Alling, who currently holds council position 4, hasn’t filed for reelection, nor has anyone else filed for that seat.

In Elmer City, Mayor Jesse Tillman has filed to stay on as mayor for a two-year term; Michael Humiston has filed to stay at council position 1, a two-year term; Donald Bonertz has filed to stay at council position 4, a four-year term; and Terje Berg has filed to stay at council position 5, also a four-year term.

No one has filed for council position 2, currently unoccupied, which is a two-year term.

In the Grand Coulee Dam School District, George LaPlace has filed for a four-year term to continue his current position as school director at large, position 3.

Brenda Covington hasn’t filed to continue as school director in position 4, a four-year term.

In the Nespelem School District, Anna Vargas has filed for the director position 1 for a four-year term; Annette Moses has filed for director position 2, a four-year term; and Stephanie Palmer has filed for director position 4, a 2-year term. All three are the incumbents in those positions.

In Hospital District 6, Brenda Turner is challenging incumbent Kristan Hare for a six-year term in commissioner position 1; and Bradley Parrish is challenging incumbent Betty Brueske in the commissioner position 5, also a six-year term.

No one has filed for the Coulee Area Park & Recreation District’s commissioner positions 1, 2, and 3, currently up for election and currently held by Carla Marconi, Debbie Bigelow, and Bob Valen, respectively.

In Grant County Port District 7, Scott Ross has filed for the commission position 2, currently held by Gary Haag, who has not filed himself.

In Grant County Fire District 14, incumbents are going unchallenged, with Deborah Nelson having filed for a two-year term as commissioner in position 1; Thomas Walters filing for commissioner position 2, a 4-year term, and Marjorie Sanders filing for commissioner position 3, a 6-year term.

In Lincoln County Fire District 9, Daniel Zlateff has filed to stay on as commissioner in position 1, a 6-year term; and Richard Coffland has filed for commissioner position 3, a four-year term currently held by Frank Thomas, who has not filed.
