The Grant County Health District is looking for a representative for their Board of Health from the northern part of the county, which includes Electric City and Grand Coulee in addition to the Coulee City and Hartline area.
The position is for a two-year term. The board meets for a couple hours each month on the second Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Ephrata.
Board members are compensated for their mileage at 70 cents a mile.
Theresa Adkinson, an administrator for GCHD, met with the Regional Board of Mayors Monday to encourage the group to find someone to fill the empty board seat.
Adkinson explained that meetings have been cancelled for lack of a quorum, and that it is smart to have an alternate board member, as well.
The board member can bring concerns from the area to the board, as well as bring information back to the area from the board.
The meetings are a chance for representatives to ask questions, raise concerns from the community, and hear health-related information relevant to Grant County.
Board members vote on things like adopting the budget, setting local ordinances, and setting the fee schedule. They also address issues with policies.
GCHD is involved with various health issues, including environmental issues, enforcing state laws concerning water, septic, food, various animal concerns, and more.
If residents of Grant County have an interest in filling this role, they should speak with their city council members. Or for more information, contact Adkinson at 509-766-7960, extension 24.
The position has been open since Carol Nordine resigned in late 2018.
