Back to School emotions

Jess, shut up!

Summer 2019 has almost expired, and that means the kids have worn out their welcome at home and are being sent out with new clothes, a backpack and made to get on the big yellow bus. At the same time teachers and others school workers must now get up to the early alarm, drag themselves to the school house and prepare for the new year.

Smiles and grimaces of all sizes will enter the school doors prepared for the education process. Custodians will have the building shining, food will be ready, buses will be clean, paperwork will be filled out, nurses will be stocked up, and administrators will be ready to administrate. The students will either be excited to see friends or walk in with a lack-of-sleep frown. Yep, school is back in session.

Soon, we will all be going to watch our favorite Raider on the field, in the gym, on the road and with pom poms. We will be doing homework, projects and assignments. Students will be cramming for exams, borrowing pencils and detoxing from their phones.

It’s that time of year again. Seniors are on the last leg of their marathon and looking to scholarships, applications and freedom, while the preschoolers enter the building for the first time with a wide-eyed excitement mixed with a little fear. Parents will cry, celebrate and cry again. Oh, and so will the teachers.

This will be a different year for everyone at Lake Roosevelt, well kind of. There will be new administrators, new teachers, new staff, and old staff in new positions and locations. We will also have new students as they navigate the waters of being new. Friends will be made, and all will try and find their groove in the land of Lake Roosevelt. Parents will finally get caught up on laundry, chores and naps as they reclaim their territory called home.

As we all move forward, please remember those students and school employees as we work toward a success story in each student’s educational chapter. It takes us all to make sure that every child has a successful childhood. That could be by helping them with school supplies, attending a sporting event, volunteering at school, or by giving them a kind word. Students in this day and age are put under a lot of stress. The demand put on them between 7 a.m. and 3:05 p.m. can be mind boggling. It can be even more stressful if practice follows a day of school. Then homework, chores and siblings come into the mix, and then we add the stress of the parents.

It can be hard being a kid, and there are those out there who need all our help, love and guidance. Lets make this year the best Raider year ever.
