Ladies kill it in vb road games

The Lady Raiders volleyball squad won two games last week against both Oroville and Wilbur/Creston.

Lake Roosevelt defeated the Hornets in Oroville Oct. 10 in three quick sets, scored 25-9, 25-15, and 25-10.

“Easy win for us on the road, which is nice,” said Head Coach Teri Sue Reed. “We had to really work on keeping our intensity up. … Our senior leaders are setting the bar high.”

Mikaylah Thompson led the Lady Raiders in kills with 11; Megan Abel led in assists with 13; Ellie Hansen led in aces with nine, as well as getting two blocks; and Emma Marchand led the team in digs with seven.

Next, the Lady Raiders defeated the Lady Wildcats in Wilbur Oct. 12, in five sets, losing the first 25-22, then winning the next two 25-22 and 25-18. They dropped the fourth set 25-16, but won the tie-breaking fifth set 15-11.

“It was a fight to the end,” Reed said. “We are struggling a bit with inconsistent focus. We’ve been giving away too many points off of mental errors. We have all the talent in the world but we need to raise the bar and stay there. The girls know this and have been making changes to correct it. My Seniors are all playing at a high level right now. They are hitting harder than ever, and our team serving is phenomenal. Teamwork and team unity is also on target.”

Thompson again led the Lady Raiders with 23 kills and 10 aces; Abel led in assists, with 22; Audrey and Ellie Hansen each had two blocks at the net; and Jozlyn Hansen led the Ladies in digs with 26.

The Lady Raiders were scheduled to host Manson last night, results of which will be in next week’s Star.

On Thursday, Oct. 17 they’ll head to Brewster to face off against the Lady Bears at 6:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, they host Waterville at 12:30 p.m.

“We are hoping to head into this week with some victories,” Reed said.

The Lady Raiders have a 3-1 league win-loss record, 6-2 overall, placing them third in the Central Washington 2B league behind Brewster (4-0, 9-1) and Liberty Bell (4-1, 8-4).
